If you are in danger of being made redundant there are some things you can do to either perseude your employer to choose someone else or give yourself some leverage in trying to negotiate a better package.
Employers have to do 3 things to make a redundancy fair:
1. They have to consult with you- and this means proper consultation not just telling you what they are doing.
2. They have to have a proper selection criteria that is a table or matrix of scoring to decide who is to go and consider all of those who should be in the pool.
3. They have to consider what alternative jobs are available that you may be able to do.
If (when) they fail to do one of these 3 things you have a chance to say the dismissal was unfair and if they had done these things the result would have been different.
